"I don't have any ambition apart from education for myself, and my small brother and sister."

My name is Tiuri and I am 12 years old. I am from Kodak – a village in the Chitwan district of Narayani zone - in the Central Region of Nepal. Kodak is one of the hilly areas of the district and about 165 km away from Kathmandu. My parents were farmers and had a small piece of land which was not enough to provide for our livelihood. Therefore my parents came to Kathmandu city four months ago – hoping to find employment and an education for us.

There are nine of us in our family, and we all live together near the rug factories in the city.

I have to start work at 5 o'clock in the morning. I clean the pots and make tea for my parents and family. Then, when they go to work and to school, I look after the babies, cook food and wash up. I also wash clothes as well. I work alone, seven days a week and don't get paid anything. The best times are when my brother sleeps and I can watch movies. The worst are when my parents scold me.

I don't have any ambition apart from education for myself, and my small brother and sister. GoodWeave has already supported my older brother and sister. I would like any training apart from rug making - it is important to earn money.
