Student rug design competition 2010

The 2010 student rug design competition, run by GoodWeave, is now open to entries from design students aged 18 or over, in the UK and Ireland. This is the third year for this competition, which was previously called the RugMark Design Competition, and it is becoming a firm favourite with students and tutors alike.

This year the design themes are: Industrial or Organic

The design brief is firmly geared to the luxury end of the market place – in fact, this year there are two alternative briefs: Industrial and Organic. Both briefs are highly commercial and pick up on fashionable themes and trends within the interiors market.

For tutors there is a PowerPoint presentation on hand-knotted rug production and design tips, whilst for students there are notes and a similar presentation in pdf format – all provide a valuable insight into what to consider if you want to create a stunning rug design, and have a chance of winning this prestigious competition.

Thanks to the generous support of co-sponsors, Jacaranda Carpets and Wovenground.com, the winning designs will be hand-made into rugs, creating highly valuable works of art for the students to keep, together with additional prizes and promotional opportunities. A particular highlight of this year's competition will be the exhibition of the winning entries at Decorex International in September.
