Once again GoodWeave UK is running its high profile, rug design competition, which is open to design students, aged 18 or over. This year the commercial brief, which picks up on current market trends, is entitled Natural Origins, and a mood board and colour palette are provided, as inspiration. All entries need to be received by Friday May 20th 2011.

Thanks to competition sponsors and GoodWeave partners WovenGround.com and Jacaranda Carpets, Tutor Packs are available this year including expert advice on design and manufacturing techniques and information on the ethical issues surrounding rug production. A number of colleges and universities used the competition as a piece of coursework for their students last year, and hopefully this will also be the case in 2011.

The winning designs will be exhibited at the acclaimed interiors exhibition, Decorex International 2011, in September, and there will be an opportunity for the best designs to be commercially produced – a wonderful start to any student’s design career!
