RugMark Labelled rugs from India

Comments:
Gyer was established in 2005 by Rebecca von Gyer. Her fascination with textiles was always closely linked to Asia, and it is these unbreakable ties between Asia and the west that have led to her extensive experience in hand crafted textiles. Gyer was founded to marry the skilled craftsmanship and techniques of the east with the contemporary imagery of the west.

Gyer offers playful luxury in the form of functional and decorative floor coverings. Each carpet is hand-tufted and carved by experienced craftsmen making each piece unique. The finest New Zealand wool is used giving the rugs their sensuous touch and lustre. Designs have been created to function as runners or rugs. All designs are available in any size and majority are available in other proportions. Each piece is made to measure.

"RUGMARK offers the best assurance that no illegal child labour was employed in the making of our rugs."

Hand knotted rugs from India and Nepal

Comments:
Jacaranda is a specialist designer and manufacturer of beautiful hand-woven rugs and broadloom carpets. With interesting textures and weaves, and materials ranging from un-dyed pure wool to leather and hemp, the company is both innovative and on-trend while maintaining a high ethical standpoint on labour and production practices.

Richard Meager's philosophy has been to introduce only products that fulfil strict criteria. All Jacaranda's rugs and carpets must:
  • Use natural fibres – wool, silk, leather and hemp
  • Combine natural colours with interesting textures and weaves
  • Resonate with current interior design trends in both style and tone
  • Offer the consumer good quality at sensible prices
  • Result from ethical labour and production practices
Wherever possible, Jacaranda sources 'environmentally sound' products. The company uses only natural fibres and traditional hand operated looms that require no electricity and several of the ranges are made from undyed wool, where colours are created by careful wool grading, eliminating damaging dyes from production.

Flexibility and customer's freedom to design are also key components of the Jacaranda philosophy. The company stocks rugs and broadloom carpets however all the broadlooms can be made-to-measure, mixing and matching textures and tones, or bordering with leather, suede, linen and cotton. Jacaranda can also colour match rugs and broadloom carpets to pantones, paints or fabrics or make leather, wool and silk rugs to either their own patterns or to completely new and unique 'customer' designs. The company can sculpt designs into rugs too.

Comments:
Jean Moncrieff, who was once a designer of needlepoint, now turns her skills to creating bespoke rugs and wall-hangings for private clients, interior designers and architects. She can produce pieces for large public areas, and is currently working on reproducing Scottish artists' paintings in wool form, either as rugs or wall art. From Scotland, her designs are sent to Nepal where they are hand knotted using only the finest Tibetan wool, silks and natural dyes. The whole process is hand done - including the designing stage - as Jean prefers to draw, paint or stitch a small "maquette" of the design rather than use a computer. She has just returned from Nepal where she secured her weavers from the recommended Rugmark list.
